Classic Soccer Program
|The Season||Fall 2013 Coaches|
Classic Soccer is the highest competive level of soccer that Hillsboro Soccer Club offers. Since it is competitive, players must try out to make the team. It requires more of a time and financial commitment than Recreation or Select Soccer. Fall & Spring Classic Soccer is available to both boys and girls U11 through U14. Winter Classic Soccer is available to high school players U15 through U19. Teams consist of approximately 16 players and are coached by licensed, experienced coaches.
Tryouts - Online registration for Fall and Spring tryouts normally opens in April and can be found listed on the Registration page. Tryouts are normally held in mid-May and there is on-site registration for anybody that did not register online; however, online registration is preferred.May tryout for Classic players is a one year commitment for both the club and players for both the upcoming fall and spring seasons.
Players must register for tryout age brackets according to the Age Classifications table using their legal birthdate.
Selection Process - Three or four evaluators per age group usually conduct the selection process with one of them assigned as head coach for that age. Players are evaluated on skill, attitude, and coachability.
HSC makes every effort to keep the process as unbiased as possible and will notify the parents in a timely manner as to whether their player made the team or not. Players that are selected for teams need to indicate their accept of the offered position and are expected to follow the player commitment policy. Upon acceptance a minimum payment of 25% fall fees is required before final team placement. Players that are not placed on a Select or Classic team or do not accept the offered position will have an option to play in the HSC Recreation program.
Practices - Fall training generally starts at the end of May or early June. Occasionally there may be an additional day during the week added to this depending on the coach and the upcoming schedule. Practice is usually held three times per week for up to two hours a session. The Spring trainig generally starts early January and will run through mid April.
Tournaments - Classic teams normally participate in 2 or 3 tournaments during the year. The tournaments are selected by the coach. Player participation in the tournaments is encouraged, but not mandatory.
Fall Games - Fall Classic games normally begin the first weekend after Labor day. The season runs about the same length of time as Recreation and Select Soccer and ends late October to mid-November. Normally, there are 12 league games in the season and are played on both Saturday and Sunday with the possibility of multiple games per day. Classic Soccer also requires more travel than Recreation Soccer. It is not uncommon to play games that require an hour's drive or an overnight stay. After the Qualifying tournament the teams are placed in their brackets for the year. Depending on the size of the bracket, the team plays every team at home once and every team away once.
Player Time - The club's philosophy is to try to provide players with the opportunity to play at least half the game. However, this may vary due to missed practice, attitude problems, injury, etc.
Spring Season - Many teams will play in the State Cup Tournament and/or will continue to play together after the fall season is over. Some will play indoor, some will play Spring Soccer, and all will require additional costs. Spring training often starts in January or early February. Games may begin in February and continue until late April or early May.
Players are required to tryout again each year for the next Fall Season in May.
Leagues - The teams typically play in the Oregon Premier League in both Fall and Spring. See the Leagues Overview for more details on the local leagues.
