RETURN TO PLAY

OUR RETURN TO PLAY PROTOCOLS ARE READY TO GO. WE HAVE DETAILED DOCUMENTS ON HOW WE ARE GOING TO RETURN SAFELY, ALONG WITH VIDEOS AND A PODCAST DEDICATED TO THE SUBJECT

What are PODS?

Due to the field and state regulations regarding the health and safety of our players, we are splitting the entire age group into Pods of no more than 12 players. These Pods will be unique for the month of July, and once we are allowed to enter Phase 3, we will return to team training.

How are the PODs created?

The Pods are created alphabetically. Although there may be a couple of exceptions so that siblings may be in the same pod.

Can I change my POD?

The Pods are set for the month of July. This is to ensure that the players are with a unique group during Phase 2, to minimize the potential risk of exposure. We understand that this may be a difficult time, however please note that we anticipate this lasting only a couple of weeks, and we will return to team training then.

Will my player get a fair evaluation at the start of the new season?

As the traditional try out process was cancelled this year, we have placed our coaches throughout the age group Pods, encouraging them to evaluate every player over the 2 week period. This will ensure that - at the time of team placement - we have given every player the opportunity to demonstrate their talents.

What will training look like?

Training will certainly look different than it has before. You are certainly used to a lot of small sided games, and with Phase 2 these will not be permitted just yet. This gives us a wonderful opportunity to work with the players and focus on their individual technique and ball mastery. Sessions will involve competition, but these games will stay away from contact to ensure that everyone stays safe.

How long is training? And why?

We have the sessions based around a 40 minute session. There will then be a 20 minute window to get the players off the field, and the next set of players on the field safely. These 40 minute sessions will be heavily focused on technical work, which is both difficult to master, and a good endurance exercise. Our players are returning from months away from the field, and we want to ensure that it is a slow transition into full play. This will reduce injuries and help guide the players back into the full game.

What precautions are the club taking at the fields to ensure everyone is safe?

Managing the fields is certainly a challenge, and the club has spent a lot of time focused on those logistics. We will operate the entrances on the south side of 53rd, and each station will have a check in, hand sanitization and signage. The players will check in quickly, then go straight to their respective Pod. They will have their own square for the session, before exiting on the north side of the field - again stopping for hand sanitizer. All players are more than welcome to wear masks should you/they desire, and you will likely see some of our coaching staff doing the same.

Do you have any further information to help me understand how the Return to Play will work?

Absolutely! We have a page dedicated to the Return to Play, along with a full document, videos in English and Spanish and a full Podcast episode dedicated to it. You can find that information by clicking here : https://www.hillsborosoccer.org/corona-update/

How does 13/14 kids on a pod with 4 mangers keep the kids at a safe distance from one another?

All of our Pods are maxed at 12 players + 1 coach. Each Pod will have a minimum of a 1/4 of a field at any one time. So the Pods will be able to maintain plenty of space from one another to begin their practices. There is a limit to player count per field from the City and State, and the club is adhering to these policies.

How many pods practice on a field at a time?
There will be a max of 4 Pods practicing on a field at any one time, and more often than not, there will be 3 per field at any one time. This gives everyone plenty of space to ensure that the players and coaching staff can maintain social distancing.
Do the coaching staff assigned to a team mix with other teams?
Each coach will be working with only one Pod at any one time. There will then be a sanitization opportunity between Pods. Most Pods currently have a number of coaches listed, this will be the coaching staff that eventually works with the Age group, once teams are formed. Therefore, only one coach will be working with each Pod at any one time.
If a child or adult becomes infected with covid will we be notified?
Per the State rules, we will be notified by the CDC and State if a player has been exposed or infected by COVID19, and we are required to provide a potential tracing list of all players that have been involved with the individual. We will then notify all of the players on that list that a player was a confirmed case of COVID19. Parents then may choose whether or not to bring their child to practice.
Are the pods going to be a way of tryouts?  Will this form teams?
The Pods are going to be a temporary solution to slowly introduce players back into the game, and to maintain all of the health measures that we are adhering to. The traditional Try Outs will not occur this year. Instead, we will have training as our smaller groups until the end of July. At which point "Team Placements" will occur, and every player will be notified of which team that they will be assigned to. If all goes well, we can then move into training as those individual teams at the end of July or beginning of August.

Hillsboro Soccer Club is embarking on our most ambitious project yet.

With Hillsboro growing at almost 20% every 10 years, we are preparing ourselves for this continued growth, by commencing the creation of a synthetic field with full lights.

This project is based out of the Evergreen Christian Center in Hillsboro, where we have been fortunate enough to source an incredible location for our new home.

This home will become a base for more than 2000 players every season to train and will help us grow our financial aid program, our scholarships, our MultiCultural league and so much more.

This field is the future of Hillsboro Soccer Club, and we welcome you to join us in becoming a part of our history.

Recreational Soccer

The foundation for our success

Hillsboro Soccer Club is proud of it's very successful Recreation (Rec) soccer Program. It is not only the largest within the area, we have always been successful at transitioning players through the pathway and bringing them into the Competitive Programs.

Recreation soccer is the entry level of soccer that HSC offers. This level is available to players from Age 5 through 14. Rec Soccer is intended for players just entering soccer or those who simply enjoy the game and do not wish to participate in the more competitive Junior Premier, Junior Premier II and Premier programs.

Over the past 19 years, the MultiCultural League has grown to include 27 teams with over 600 players. The MultiCultural League has been very successful in involving a diverse group of students and their families from across the greater Portland area.

For a group made up entirely of so-called “minority” students (Latino, Asian, and Eastern European) an opportunity like this goes a long way in developing a sense of worth and pride in accomplishments earned through hard work.

This is an opportunity not provided elsewhere for these student athletes.
