RECREATIONAL SOCCER FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: WHAT ARE THE SEASON DATES?
A: Spring Season: Practice can begin after March 16th (or later depending on when grass dries) to the end of May.
Fall Season: Practice begins early August and to early November.
Q: WHEN ARE GAMES?
A: Spring Season: There are 7 Saturday games, April 4th to May 16th.
Fall Season: There are 9 game weekends beginning the Saturday after Labor Day each year.
Fall Kinder games are Thursdays and begin at 6 pm in Sept and then moved up to 5:30 pm in Oct due to daylight restrictions.
Q: WHAT IS THE COST?

Q: WHO CAN PLAY RECREATIONAL SOCCER?
A: Typically teams begin when a player is in Kindergarten. Pre-schoolers are allowed in Spring, contact the HSC office for more information.
Q: WHAT AGE GROUP SHOULD I REGISTER MY CHILD FOR?
A: For Spring Recreation, use the grade the player is in for the 2019/20 School Year.
Q: HOW ARE RECREATIONAL TEAMS FORMED?
A: Formation of teams first takes into consideration a coach and or friend request. Next, the player’s school and availability is considered. Our best efforts are made to form teams that meet the needs of our families.
Q: HOW MANY PLAYERS ARE ON MY TEAM?
A: We let the US Soccer Small Sided Games - link here - guide roster size. The goal is to build teams that facilitate beneficial playtime for all who wish to participate.

Kinders - 2nd grade is 4x4 format
3rd & 4th grade is 7x7 format
5th & 6th grade is 9x9 format
7/8th grade is 11x11 format
Q: HOW DO I REGISTER?
A: Please use the online registration platform TeamSnap to register. Call the HSC office for help (#503-648-5425). To Register click here
Q: WHEN & WHERE ARE PRACTICES?
A: Practices will be at Hillsboro School District or Parks Fields. The volunteer coach is allowed to choose the location and day of the practice. Typically practices are between 5-8pm for 60 to 90 mins depending on age.
Q: WHERE WILL MY GAMES BE?
A: Games for 3rd grade and younger are played on school district and parks fields around Hillsboro and surrounding communities. The 4th grade and older teams may travel for some games. There are 3 guaranteed home games, although usually there are more.

Q: HOW CAN I VOLUNTEER TO COACH?
A: Please check the “Volunteer to Coach” box when registering your player via the online form. Hillsboro Soccer Club relies on volunteer coaches for the Recreational program. Or contact our Recreational Coordinator - Mason Aguirre - at Mason@hillsborosoccer.org
Q: WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF COACHING?
A: Involvement in a child’s soccer development and positive influence on the youth of Hillsboro Community. The Head Coach chooses the practice day(s), location and time for the team. Coaches are provided with gear and practice day resources. See Incentive program below.
Q: IS THERE AN INCENTIVE PROGRAM FOR RECREATIONAL COACHES?
A: Yes, all people who volunteer to coach a team, attend one Coach Clinic, and return any borrowed gear after the season, will qualify for a reimbursement of their child’s fees at the end of the season. Max one reimbursement per team, but can be split between co-coaches.
Q: HOW DO I GET THE T-SHIRT FOR MY KINDER - 2nd GRADE CHILD?
A: T-shirts and long socks are provided for the kinder to 2nd grade players. Typically black shorts are worn, but any bottom is ok. These are provided directly to the coaches for the players, and will be handed out before the first game.
Q: HOW DO I GET A UNIFORM FOR MY 3rd - 8th GRADE CHILD?
A: Third to Middle school can purchase uniforms at Tursi’s Soccer Shop before the first game April 4th.

Q: WHAT IS THE VOLUNTEER POLICY?
A: Hillsboro Soccer Club Recreational program is volunteer run. Coaches, field lining, maintenance, equipment sorting, and other jobs are needed to continue the program. All members are expected to volunteer in some capacity.
Q: WHAT IS THE BUY OUT POLICY?
A: Families also have the option to pay a $25 per family. These funds are used for the HSC scholarship fund, allowing all players no matter economic situation, an opportunity to play.
Q: ARE THERE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE OPPORTUNITIES?
A: Yes, financial assistance (FA) is awarded to all who qualify for Free/Reduced lunches at their school. Click here to complete the form in English or Spanish, or Contact the HSC office or visit the website for more information
